Hey y'all! Welcome back to Sass and Stilettos on this fine Friday! Today I'm going to be sharing my tips for dressing for a wedding. Sometimes it can be hard to know what to wear to a wedding depending on if it's formal, semi-formal, or casual. Hopefully my tips can make this wedding season a breeze for you!
1. DON'T WEAR WHITE
In the last 2-3 years, I have been to about 8 weddings including 2 that I was a bridesmaid for so I've had quite a bit of experience with dressing for them and seeing lots of wedding outfit no no's. If you don't pay attention to any other tips I share with you today, that's fine if you just follow this one gigantic and most important rule. DO NOT WEAR WHITE TO A WEDDING!!!!! I have seen this so many times and it just confuses me and irritates me all at the same time. It's confusing to me because I'm pretty sure this is the biggest unspoken rule for any wedding and I'm just like come on people. The reason it irritates me is because the bride has waited her whole life to wear a gorgeous white dress and shine on her wedding day and if you wear white, you're taking that moment away from her. Just respect the bride and don't do it. That's why I so don't understand the whole beige/white dresses for bridesmaids....I want to stand out on my wedding day but to each their own.
2. Think about colors and venue
My second tip for dressing for a wedding is to think about the venue and the season. If the wedding is in the fall, a darker color dress or outfit would be appropriate. If it's spring or summer, bright pastels would be perfect! Try to find out what the wedding colors are so you don't show up looking like a bridesmaid. You can usually figure out the colors they're using from the invitations or save the dates. When thinking about footwear, consider where the venue is. If it's on a beach or grassy area, heels may not be ideal.
3. Don't be too matchy
My third tips is if you have a date, try not to be too matchy-matchy. Wear something that compliments your dates outfit but don't look like you just stepped out of an awkward family photo. This isn't prom, y'all. You'll be grateful you didn't.
I included 2 photos of Joey and me at 2 weddings we went to to kind of show you how we coordinated.

In the top picture, Joey was a groomsman in his friend's wedding and he wore a gray suit with a pale pink tie. I picked a dress that had a touch of pale pink in it to tie the whole thing together. In the second photo, Joey was a groomsman in his sister's wedding and his tie was navy blue. I chose a dress, again, that had navy blue in it that coordinated well with his tie.
See y'all next week!
XO,
Gabby
