Happy Friday y'all! I hope your week has been marvelous! I can't believe Valentine's day is less than 1 week away! In my opinion, Valentine's day is kind of a stupid holiday but I love it regardless. I know what you're thinking, "Of course you love Valentine's Day, you have a significant other". At this point, I do love Valentine's Day because it's a chance to show Joey how much I love him even more than usual! I just love doing things for him :) But I didn't always have a significant other. I've loved Valentine's Day ever since I was a kid. Even when I was single, I loved it because I just love love. I love seeing people in love. It just warms my heart. Today I'm going to help all you single ladies and gents find ways to fill your Valentine's Days with love!

Valentine's Day came about when there was a ban on marriage in the ancient Roman empire because Claudius II thought marriage made men weak (Ha. K). A man by the name of St. Valentine would marry people in secret. He was a man that believed in love. Later he was to be executed partially because he married people in private but also because he wouldn't renounce his Christianity. Before being executed, he wrote a letter to his love and addressed it "From your Valentine". He was believed to be executed on February 14th thus the beginning of Valentine's Day! I know it's not the most romantic story and I vaguely remember watching a video about it in elementary school which is a little bit weird! All this is to say, Valentine's Day wasn't always the crazy love holiday it is now.

Now that you've had a brief history lesson, here are my suggestions for filling your single Valentine's Day with love!

1. Embrace the Holiday

Valentine's Day doesn't have to be horrible. It's all in your attitude toward it. Your attitude is going to determine the outcome of the day. If you're bitter about being single and don't want anyone else to be happy and are bringing other people down, you're going to be miserable. But if you resolve to be happy and treat it like any other day and embrace it, you'll have a much better day. When I was single, I would always just think of the day as another day of the week. It really helped me feel happy about the day.

2. Love On Your Friends

I looooove doing this! Even if your friends aren't single, just doing something to let them know you love them can help you embrace the holiday. I love showing my friends love and Valentine's Day is no exception. Galentine's day has become increasingly popular and for good reason. I love the idea of just getting together with your gals or pals and just having a good time! You can even send your friends a little something to let them know you're thinking of them and let them know how much you love them :) Who says Valentine's Day is only for couples?

3. Treat Yoself

This was probably my favorite thing to do on Valentine's Day! Growing up, my mom would always give us a little present or take us to do something fun on Valentine's Day! After you're done spoiling your friends, you can spoil yourself! Nobody said you can't be your own valentine ;) A little self-love is necessary, especially on Valentine's Day!

4. Spoil a Stranger

This isn't only for single people. Everyone can do this! Show a little love to a stranger! You can pay for someone's meal at a restaurant or something as little as complimenting someone and making their day with a smile. Showing the love of Jesus to someone who may be having a rough day may be just what they need.

Valentine's Day doesn't have to be a holiday that you just try to get through. It honestly hurts me when someone feels like they can't be a part of the holiday because they aren't part of a couple. But that also doesn't mean they should be bitter or bash it. Making a couple feel bad for celebrating Valentine's Day isn't going to make it any better for the single person. Hopefully my tips can help all my single guys and gals enjoy all the Valentine's Days to come! I'll see you next week!

XO,

Gabby
